Dr. John Weston, owner and director of Scripps Center for Dental Care, earned his dental degree in 1989, graduating as one of the top five in his class. While a commissioned officer in the US Navy, he completed a General Practice Residency at Balboa Naval Hospital San Diego and served two years of independent duty aboard a U.S. Navy warship in support of Desert Storm.
Dr. Weston is the only dentist in La Jolla and one of a small group of San Diego cosmetic dentists to earn the rigorous credential of “Accredited Member” through the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. As a strong advocate of continuing education, Dr. Weston attends courses year-round to stay up to date on the most current cosmetic dental procedures and regularly gives lectures and hands-on courses to international and San Diego area cosmetic dentists.
Dr. John Weston is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the San Diego County Dental Society. He is an Accredited Member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, in which he also holds an elected position on the board of directors. He has been practicing cosmetic dentistry in the La Jolla area for the past 16 years with a focus in cosmetic smile design using nonmetal restorations.
Dr. John Weston and his wife Ginger reside in La Jolla. He is an avid sportsman who enjoys kiteboarding, snowboarding, waterskiing, boating, and scuba diving.
Dr. Marlin E. Gher earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City Dental School and practiced as a general dentist for six years. He attended the Naval Dental School, Bethesda, Maryland for specialty training in periodontics. After completing his residency, Dr. Gher joined the staff of the Naval Dental School to teach periodontics. He then transferred to the Naval Dental Center, San Diego where he served as the head of the Periodontics Department and Director of the Periodontal Fellowship Program for Navy dentists. Dr. Gher next returned to the Naval Dental School, where from 1989-1993 he concurrently held positions as the Chairman of the Periodontics Department and as the Director of the Periodontics Residency Program. During this time, Dr. Gher also served as the Specialty Advisor for Periodontics to the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.
Dr. Marlin E. Gher holds board certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and as a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine. Dr. Gher has written numerous articles on periodontics and has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally on a wide variety of periodontal topics, including dental implants, periodontal plastic surgery, periodontal restorative relationships, and advances in periodontal therapy. He is trained in and has taught the use of multiple dental implant systems, including Branemark®, ITI®, Lifecore, Friadent and Integral dental implants. When devising dental implant systems for our La Jolla-area patients, Dr. Gher works with our cosmetic dentists to ensure the most functional and aesthetically pleasing results.
Dr. Gher and his wife Sharon have two children, Steven and Jaime. He enjoys participating in sports with his family, including skiing, fishing, hiking, and scuba diving, and is an accomplished amateur photographer.
Dr. Scott O. Szotko is a graduate of The University of Michigan School of Dentistry in Ann Arbor. Upon graduation, he worked for a state public health center providing dental care to Michigan’s underserved. Dr. Szotko has spent nearly eight years in private practice, including four years here at Scripps Center for Dental Care in San Diego as a Clinical Associate working with our team of cosmetic and restorative dentists. He enjoys educating his patients about the amazing benefits of modern dentistry while focusing on the importance of good oral hygiene in the lifelong prevention of dental disease. Dr. Szotko is inspired by the dramatic changes a new, improved smile can bring about in a person’s life.
Dr. Szotko is an active member of several dental organizations, including the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the San Diego County Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He has served on many committees, councils, and task forces and believes that volunteering in these organizations betters the profession of dentistry.
Dr. Szotko was born and raised in the beautiful state of Michigan and is an avid sports fan. Together with his wife Kimber, he enjoys golfing, boating, and camping in San Diego’s near-perfect climate. As active members of The University of Michigan Alumni Association, the Szotkos’ favorite pastime is watching the Wolverines play on Saturdays in the fall!
Dr. Jordan earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and PhD in 1990 from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main, Germany. After several years in private practice she became an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral-and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Stellenbosch/Cape Town South Africa where she devoted her spare time to help the underserved townships in need of dental surgery.
Dr Jordan earned her degree as an orthodontist from the prestigious Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Charité, Humboldt-University in Berlin; Germany where she spent 4 years postgraduate training and residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Dr. Jordan also became an Assistant Professor at the university where her advanced training focused on the research of cleft-palate patients as well as comprehensive orthodontic care.
After completing the National and California board exams at University of the Pacific (UOP) in San Francisco and University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, Dr Jordan relocated to San Diego. She attends a great variety of professional meetings annually including the American Association of Orthodontists and she enjoys traveling to European meetings to stay up-to-date with international trends in her career.
Dr. Beyer-Jordan is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), the California Dental Association (CDA), San Diego County Dental Association (SDCDS),the German Association of Orthodontists (DGKFO) and a Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO).
Dr. Beyer-Jordan was born and raised in Germany and has lived with her family in San Diego since 2002. She spends free time with her husband and two children enjoying outdoor activities and sailing.
Dr. Roger S. Kingston is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Stanford University and his dental degree at UCLA, then he completed specialty training in both Anesthesiology and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Los Angeles County Harbor General Hospital. He has been in private practice since 1975 and is on the active medical staff at the Scripps Memorial Hospitals and Scripps Clinic. Dr. Kingston is a Diplomate of both the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology.
Dr. Kingston's areas of special surgical interest are dental implants and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) rehabilitation. He has lectured extensively on these subjects as well as dental anesthesiology, and he chaired the Scripps Conference on TMJ in 1989. He is a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists dental honor societies.
Outside the Dental Center, Dr. Kingston is active in professional, community, and family affairs. He is a past president of the Southern California Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, past president and nine year member of the Solana Beach School Board, and past president of the Del Mar Rotary Club. He has served on many dental society and specialty association committees and co-founded Amigos de los Califonios, an organization of dental volunteers who provide care to remote villages in Southern Baja California.
Dr. Kingston and his wife Katie have four grown children. Family recreational interests include camping and backpacking, water sports, and raising guide-dog puppies.
Dr. Robert L. Bosworth specializes in comprehensive tooth-replacement systems and works closely with all of our certified dental specialists to coordinate complex restorations and rehabilitations. He earned his Doctorate at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio. As a commissioned officer in the US Navy, he completed a general practice residency at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland. In 1999 he began his prosthodontic residency at the Navy Postgraduate School of Dentistry in Bethesda, Maryland. This rigorous three-year residency involved all aspects of prosthodontic care, including complete and partial dentures, dental crowns, bridges, implant dentistry, and dental laboratory science. He completed his residency in 2002, earning a master’s degree in Health Sciences from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and his certificate in Prosthodontics. Dr. Bosworth served 12 years in the Navy, including an independent sea tour on a US Navy warship, two years in Japan, and two years with the 1st Marines. Dr. Bosworth’s last tour with the Navy was at the world’s largest naval base in Norfolk, Virginia, where he served as Head of the Prosthodontic Department, Chairman of the Implant Board, and Prosthodontic Instructor for the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency.
Dr. Bosworth is a member of the American College of Prosthodontics, the Academy of Osseointegration (the leading dental implant organization worldwide), and the American Dental Association. He is also a graduate of the California Implant Institute in La Jolla, California.
Dr. Bosworth and his wife, Emily, have three young children. They enjoy sailing, hiking, biking, and the beautiful San Diego beaches.
Jessica L. Hamlin received her degree in Dental Hygiene from Cabrillo College in Aptos, California, where she served as President of her class, in 1995. Her dental hygiene career has taken her to the coastal cities of Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Pismo Beach, and now San Diego.
Jessica has over 15 years of experience. She started with the Unites States Army Reserves as a Dental Assistant while attending college and also worked as a Registered Dental Assistant in a private practice. She spent a week in Juarez, Mexico with an international dental team providing dental hygiene care to impoverished Mexican citizens. She also volunteers her time with a special needs class of kindergarten children in Poway to whom she provides dental hygiene instruction.
Jessica finds the changing technology in dentistry a fascinating challenge and regularly attends dental conventions and continuing education courses. She focuses on excellence while keeping her approach with patients personal and individualized. She believes in a contemporary style of care that includes working with our La Jolla cosmetic dentists to provide patients with information and education best suited to maintaining or establishing optimum health.
Jessica spends her free time with friends and family, relaxing at doggie beach with her golden retriever Ruger, or wakeboarding at the lake. Jessica winters her horse Sierra in San Diego and shares him with her dad, and she has recently begun taking hunter/jumper and English riding lessons.
Ann F. Leath was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and grew up in Fresno, California. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Dental Hygiene in 1969 from Caruth School of Dental Hygiene at Baylor University in Dallas, Texas. She has been in full-time practice since then, primarily in La Jolla, California.
Ann is committed to excellence and is dedicated to focusing her full attention on the patient as an individual. She brings to us a solid and well rounded foundation of hygiene expertise in general dentistry, having worked with patients ages 3-93 for 30 years. Ann's number-one priority is to work with our San Diego cosmetic dentists to provide the highest quality care available in a patient-centered, ethical practice. She enjoys attending continuing education meetings and is always looking for new techniques and ideas for motivating her patients and increasing dental awareness.
Ann is a well-rounded athlete. She is involved in the Masters Triathlon Program at UCSD and feels quite honored to have competed in the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon and the Boston Marathon. When she is not swimming, biking, or running, she finds time to do some gardening and enjoys classes in jewelry-making. She has two cats named Sunshine and Princess Anita.
Andrea B. Morrison is a native of east-central Illinois. She received her Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene in Champaign, Illinois with honors in 1993. She has obtained accreditation and licensure through the Central Regional Board, the Western Regional Board, and the California State Board. Andrea has traveled and practiced in the Colorado Rockies and Arizona, but she continued west until she found her destination and settled here in San Diego. She enjoys practicing dental hygiene at Scripps Center for Dental Care and has found it very rewarding to work with our quality La Jolla cosmetic dentists and multiple certified specialists.
Throughout her dental hygiene career, Andrea has prided herself on catering to each individual’s specific dental needs, taking into consideration the patient’s personal values, goals, and challenges. She equally enjoys working with patients of all ages and finds personal satisfaction by providing high quality oral therapy with a careful professional touch. Her enthusiasm for her dental hygiene career has been propelled by the connection between her interest in the evolution of dental technology and new developments in dentistry such as laser therapy. Andrea finds that using the latest information and equipment greatly enhances her patients’ dentistry experiences.
When not spending time at Scripps Center for Dental Care, Andrea finds contentment in nourishing her spiritual and physical interests. She enjoys browsing through bookstores, outdoor activities, travel, culinary art, weightlifting, and good conversation.
Loree K. Oberle-Edwards received her Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene in 1975 and her Master of Science degree in Oral Biology in 1977 at the University of California, San Francisco. She also received a Doctorate of Divinity in 2002. She has served in several professional organizations, including the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, the International Society of Oral Oncology, and the Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer. She has also served as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society since 1978. As a teacher and as a student, Loree incorporates recent advances in oral care and uses leading technologies. She has authored and coauthored articles in several professional peer-reviewed publications and journals.
Loree has been an employee at Scripps Clinic since 1978, practicing in the Department of Oral Medicine until its conversion to Scripps Center for Dental Care in 1988. Loree specializes in the oral care and management of patients with medical conditions such as diabetes, heart problems, prostheses, blood disorders, and autoimmune disease, as well as patients undergoing radiation and chemotherapy and those with anxiety or dental phobias. Loree focuses on total body care and supports patients in achieving optimal oral health and developing the ability to enjoy physical and emotional well-being. Thanks to her extended training, Loree’s “healing touch” is enjoyed by patients as well as staff.
A native of San Diego, Loree continues to live in this beautiful city with her husband Cliff and cats Shanti, Athena, and Wendy. She trains in Tang Soo Do Karate with her husband and holds a 1st-degree black belt in this traditional martial art. She also enjoys travel and reading.
Dr. Sechrist received his DDS from Loma Linda University and was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army where he completed a post-doctoral internship in oral surgery and general dentistry. Following several years of general practice, Dr. Sechrist earned his Certificate and Master’s Degree in Endodontics. He is currently in endodontic private practice and serving as an Assistant Professor of Endodontics at Loma Linda University.
Dr. Sechrist’s academic and professional career is distinguished by achievements during his Doctorate program where he received awards from the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, American Academy of Periodontology, and the Southern California Academy of Endodontists. In addition, he earned a silver award for Academic Excellence and was recognized by Who's Who of American Colleges and Universities during his residency training program at Loma Linda University.
Dr Sechrist holds membership in the California Dental Association and American Dental Association and is an active member of the American Association of Endodontics, serving on the Evidence Based Endodontics committee, the Resident and New Practitioner committee, and the American Association of Endodontics Foundation committee. He has successfully passed the written component of the American Board of Endodontics Examination with plans for Board Certification in the near future.
Dr. Sechrist spends his free time with his wife and four children enjoying family outings, playing golf, and water-sports.
