Another cosmetic dentistry service available at our La Jolla, San Diego area dental office is direct freehand dental bonding. Advantages of freehand bonding include minimal or no tooth preparations, quick results, and a lower cost because no lab fees are generated.

Another service we offer is what we call freehand bonding. That’s where we place a direct composite resin material on the teeth. It’s a material that can be very highly polished and we can place it on the teeth and sculpt a new smile and treat that patient and do it all in one visit. With porcelain veneers and other types of restorative materials, you need the laboratory to make the restoration and then at a later date it’s placed. With the direct freehand bonding, we can actually create the smile on the spot, in one visit, and it can be very durable. It’s not quite as durable as porcelain. It maybe has about half the life expectancy, maybe 7 to 10 years, versus porcelain might have a 10 to 15 or 20-year restoration, but direct bonding, freehand bonding can be very effective and we kind of reserve that for maybe some of our younger patients or maybe our patients who are in transition to more future dentistry or maybe somebody who’s not ready to invest in a full porcelain veneer makeover and they want to get something in there that works and functions and looks great.
