Description
At the Scripps Center for Dental Care in La Jolla, our restorative dentists provide composite (tooth colored) fillings to our San Diego patients. Tooth-colored fillings give a more natural-looking appearance than traditional amalgam fillings.

Dental composites offer a patient an advantage over a dental amalgam filling in many ways. Dental composites have improved drastically over the past several years in their strength characteristics, their wear characteristics. Of course, they look nice when you place a composite in somebody’s mouth. It blends in seamlessly with the tooth structure, where a dental amalgam stands out. They’re gray, black, they cause cracking of the teeth and patients just don’t like to look at the unsightly filling material in their tooth structure. So dental composites, when they’re placed well, actually enhance the strength of the tooth because they bond to the tooth structure itself, so the materials now that we’re using offer the patient a huge advantage over the filling materials of old.
