Laser Dentistry Applications and Benefits

We can employ laser dentistry at our office in La Jolla for a vast array of procedures and services. Among these are cosmetic dentistry procedures such as tooth whitening with the BriteSmile® system and gum shaping. Gum shaping, also known as gingival contouring, involves using a laser to gently sculpt a patient’s gum line into a more visually pleasing shape. This procedure produces dramatic results and has become increasingly common now that lasers allow us to perform gum shaping with minimal discomfort to the patient.

Digital Radiography

Scripps Center for Dental Care now uses state-of-the-art digital radiography to conduct patient x-rays. This system greatly increases the efficiency of the x-ray process and offers many benefits to both the patient and the dentist. Benefits of this technology include:

• Instant digital x-ray images appear right on the screen.
• Environmentally friendly - no chemical developing.
• Crisp, clear, panoramic, high-resolution images.

With digital x-rays, a panoramic image of the patient’s entire mouth appears on a monitor conveniently located in the treatment room. The easy-to-use features of digital radiography allow patients to see areas of concern quickly and with greater clarity than ever before. Digital Dental Imaging

Dental Microscopes

With our new dental microscopes, we can perform diagnostic examinations with more clarity and detail than ever before. The dental microscopes that we employ are ergonomically designed to be comfortable for our dentists to use for long periods of time, a feature that enables us to provide the most professional, thorough, and efficient treatment available. Our microscopes come equipped with integrated video cameras so that we can project detailed images of our patients’ mouths onto monitors in the treatment rooms, which allows patients to become more personally involved in their treatment and overall dental health.

An added benefit to our patients is that the advanced features of our microscopes enable us to provide information about their diagnoses and potential treatments much sooner than was previously possible. This speed saves our patients valuable time and money, and early detection allows us to begin laser dentistry treatment sooner, promoting stronger dental health.

Voice-activated Charting

Scripps Center for Dental Care’s state-of-the-art computer network allows our team to record and retrieve information with the highest degree of accuracy and completeness possible. One of our newer technologies is voice-activated periodontal charting. Our hygiene team now has the ability to chart the status of our patients’ periodontal health using a headset and modern voice-recognition software. Prior to the implementation of this system, an additional team member was required to stand by during examinations and record patient information by hand, an arrangement that introduced time constraints and possible human error.
