Endodontics

Endodontics, commonly referred to as root canal therapy, is designed to address issues related to the roots and nerves of the teeth. Untreated dental damage or decay can eventually work its way into the middle part of the tooth where the blood supply, lymphatics, and nerves of our teeth are found. This part of the tooth is called the pulp and if the pulpal tissue is affected and left untreated, more serious concerns such as pain and infections can develop. In addition to causing considerable pain, these infections can have a negative impact on oral health and even lead to dangerous overall health conditions and affect other areas of the mouth. Root canal therapy from our certified endodontist is designed to clear away the infection, alleviate discomfort, and save the affected tooth. Furthermore, our patient-centered approach makes the root canal process easier and more comfortable than ever before.

The following root canal treatments are performed as part of our multi specialty team:

  • Tooth pain diagnosis and management
  • Root canal therapy
  • Post removal
  • Apical retrofilling
  • Apexification/apexogenesis
  • Re-treatment of failing root canal therapy

If you’re experiencing tooth pain or sensitivity, we can help. Contact us today for more information about endodontic treatment, or to schedule a consultation.

SYMPTOMS OF INFECTION

Even if you brush and floss regularly, the need for a root canal can still occur. Chips, breaks, decay, dental or oral injuries, and untreated cavities can eventually lead to an infection. If you develop intense sensitivity to heat or cold, pain or swelling in the face, a severe toothache, and/or an abscess, we encourage you to schedule an appointment so we can identify and treat the concern as quickly as possible.

THE ROOT CANAL PROCEDURE

Your care and comfort are our highest priorities, and our extensively trained team will explain the procedure prior to beginning treatment. In most cases, root canal therapy can be completed under local anesthetic; however, all levels of sedation are available. Additionally, all endodontic procedures are completed with isolation, creating a sterile treatment environment, and using ZEISS surgical microscopes to ensure the highest level of care possible. During treatment, our endodontic specialist will eliminate any sign of infection, decontaminate the root canals and place an internal filling material to seal the tooth. After completion of a root canal, additional treatment may be necessary to support the tooth and provide great long term success. If these treatments are indicated, options will be presented and explained in advance. Our multispecialty team is here for you to fully understand your specific needs and help you achieve your desired goals.
