What’s the Difference Between All-on-4® and Implant Dentures?

All-on-4® and implant dentures are two of the most popular treatments to replace an entire row of missing teeth. Both options can provide a more stable teeth replacement solution than removable dentures, giving San Diego patients the confidence of greater security when eating and speaking. That said, All-on-4® and implant dentures are not interchangeable treatments. There are key differences between implant dentures and All-on-4® that can highlight the best candidates for each respective procedure.

In general, All-on-4® is a variation of implant dentures that requires less bone support. Whereas patients receiving traditional implant dentures may need anywhere from six to eight dental implants, All-on-4® can secure a restoration with only four implants. For this reason, the All-on-4® technique can be ideal for patients who do not have enough jawbone volume to accommodate the number of implants required by a traditional implant denture procedure.

Whether you’re in need of replacing your upper dental arch, lower dental arch, or both, implant-supported dentures can benefit:

  • Those with an entire row of missing teeth who desire a secure restoration
  • Individuals missing a complete dental arch who want to prevent further jawbone loss
  • Patients who do not mind undergoing oral surgery for a long-term result
  • Healthy patients with no signs of gum disease, cavities, etc.

Our multispecialty team can evaluate the state of your mouth and bone structure to determine whether All-on-4®, implant dentures, implant-supported bridges, or another treatment option is the best way to give you the results you desire.
