How Often Should I Clean Invisalign® Aligners?

Invisalign® is widely regarded as a state-of-the-art orthodontic treatment to straighten teeth without the conspicuousness of traditional braces. Among their many benefits, the thermoplastic aligners worn during the Invisalign® process require almost no additional maintenance besides regular oral hygiene to remain in good condition, often making them a significantly more convenient orthodontic system when compared to metal braces. These aligners should be cleaned twice daily, typically at the same time that you brush your teeth. We also encourage you to rinse your aligners under lukewarm water every time you take them out to minimize bacteria buildup—avoid running them under hot water, as extreme temperatures can warp the plastic.

You can clean your aligners by using toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently brush the inside and outside of the plastic. To reduce the risk of accidentally distorting or staining your aligners, always take them out before eating or drinking. These simple preventative measures are often all that is necessary to keep Invisalign® aligners in pristine condition.
